IT WASN'T ALWAYS EASY 🥴

My journey began when I quit corporate overnight to become an agent.  I faced constant challenges, and made mistakes—not charging enough, managing artist and client expectations, and even collecting a $1,371 commission on a Janet Jackson video that should have been 50% more. Despite my passion, opening The Crystal Agency and representing artists took my hustle to a whole new level.  

There were times––when Volkswagen was trying to repossess my car while I was waiting on an overdue check from a client––that I wondered if I would make it. But that experience taught me how to be courageous, lean in, and ask for what I want.

YOU WOULDN'T BELIEVE WHAT HAPPENED 💣

One pivotal moment changed everything. I remember botching a major client negotiation because although I doubled my artists day rate from $1200 to $2500, I found that I had still left another $1000 on the table. 

I focused on mastering the business side of freelancing. This harsh lesson ignited a fire in me to learn everything I could about business strategies and apply them to my career.

I spent years learning who the real decision-makers were and fine-tuning my approach to secure meetings and close deals. The process for capturing the attention of high profile clients is the same, whatever the product.

THINGS STARTED TO CLICK ✨

Determined to turn my setbacks into comebacks, I learned quickly that the process of marketing an artist was exactly the same as what I had been doing at Xerox for 5 years. 

I sought out a mentor, attended workshops, and read extensively on business management, pricing, and marketing. Slowly but surely, things started to click, and soon I got calls from makeup artists, hair stylists, fashion stylists and photographers who needed my help getting work at record labels, ad agencies, magazines, and with celebrity clients.  

I developed a structured approach to managing my agency, which included proper pricing strategies, effective client communication, and a simple system for operating without overwhelm. These changes not only stabilized my business but also increased my confidence and professional reputation.

THEN, I CREATED A REPEATABLE PROCESS THAT I NOW TEACH TO OTHERS 💕

While there were certainly some tough times, I loved what I was doing and couldn’t think of anything that would be more fun or financially rewarding. 

I felt a strong desire to help other artists avoid the pitfalls I encountered. My reputation as a business-savvy agent grew, and I became a sought-after speaker at industry events. My book, "The Hair Makeup & Fashion Styling Career Guide," became known as the industry bible. To further share my knowledge, I created "Damn! I Didn't Know That: Business Strategies for Freelance Artists," designed to give you the tools and confidence to achieve financial freedom and professional success. I’m passionate about teaching and mentoring, and I'm dedicated to helping you transform your career just as I did.
